Privacy by Design [Dublin Event]:
The answer to securing IT networks and attaining GDPR compliance
The benefits of IoT are well known; the cyber security vulnerabilities it potentially invites are less well documented. With cybercrime an ever-growing threat, businesses worldwide face tougher security challenges daily. One recent and concerning example highlights just how easy hackers found breaking into IT networks – a school’s CCTV system was compromised and live footage of its pupils streamed online for all to view.
This type of cybercrime could affect all connected technology, including surveillance and physical security, but steps can be taken to minimise the opportunistic threat from hackers.
Axis Communications will be hosting an event to address how a privacy by design approach to projects helps promotes privacy and data protection compliance. Taking place on 13th July 2018 in Dublin, this free seminar will highlight how to ensure the security of your IT networks. It will also discuss compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Privacy by design is an approach that encourages data protection and security from the outset of any project or implementation. Unfortunately, these issues are all too often an after-thought or ignored altogether. With the arrival of the GDPR, privacy by design now sits centre stage – non-compliance is a risk that simply can’t be taken.
It is important to understand that GDPR compliance and cybersecurity go hand-in-hand. For example, the deployment of security systems that capture and store Personally Identifiable Information (PII) can lead to non-compliance if not correctly secured. Backdoors can be created, leaving businesses vulnerable to a breach.
Unfortunately, there is no such thing as 100% unbreachable in today’s connected world. This is shown by the swathe of data breach headlines that too regularly make the news. However, any solution built with a privacy by design ethos can help protect against cyber attacks, and significantly reduce the risks.
Axis Communications’ event has been designed to help businesses navigate this ever-increasing threat landscape. We’ll discuss why cybersecurity should always be a priority when deploying or upgrading a system, and help consultants, end users and systems integrators to get a better understanding of privacy by design. We’ll also discuss GDPR and its day-to-day implications for businesses.
Axis Communications’ privacy by design event takes place on 13th July 2018 at the Crown Plaza, Dublin.
Peter Dempsey will be hosting the event and will be joined by colleague Steven Kenny, Industry Liaison - Architecture & Engineering (A&E) at Axis and an expert on cybersecurity and digital video surveillance.
