Companies urged to ‘clean up’ before re-opening doors

May 12, 2020

FOLLOWING the publication on Saturday of the Government’s ‘Return to Work Safety Protocol’, designed to gradually get the economy back up and running, businesses across the country are now thinking about how and when they can safely re-open their doors.

However, before they do so, one of Ireland’s biggest independent security and facilities management companies, is urging businesses to ensure that their premises are thoroughly cleaned, disinfected and sanitised to protect returning staff and customers – with regular cleans scheduled thereafter to help prevent the virus returning.

With locations in County Antrim, Dublin, Limerick and London, Mercury Security & Facilities Management (MSFM) has reported an increase for its specialised deep cleaning service, which is designed to eliminate COVID–19.

And the company is warning companies not to leave it too late to book their deep clean, or they could face a further wait before returning to action.

“We are now nearing the point when employees will start returning to work and shops, schools, offices, factories, travel companies, and many more besides will be opening their doors again to the public,” said MSFM Commercial Director Bernard Bogues.

“Never has it been more important to ensure the environment in which we live and work in is being cleaned and maintained to the highest of clinical standards, so for the easing of any lockdown restrictions to work, it is vital that premises undergo a deep clean to sanitise the entire area,” he continued.

“Companies simply cannot afford to take chances with the health and safety of their employees or other visitors to their premises and risk a second wave of the virus.  With so many businesses currently in lockdown, the demand for specialised deep cleaning services is sure to be extremely high - so we would advise owners to book as soon as they have a return date – to prevent any further frustration and delay.

“At Mercury, we’ll be carrying out deep cleans on a ‘first come first served’ basis,” added Mr Bogues.

“It’s also vital that, having safely re-opened their doors, companies schedule regular cleans going forward  to minimise the risk of the virus coming back. We’re far from out of the woods just yet.”

Carried out by operators fully equipped with appropriate PPE (Tyvek suits, gloves, masks etc), a typical MSFM disinfection includes risk assessment, area isolation, zonal disinfection, random swab tests and waste removal, with a fully comprehensive report and certificate provided on completion.

“This is not a standard deep clean that one can get any day of the week,” continued Bernard Bogues.

“It is very specialised and requires great care and experience, so it is important to use a qualified, experienced and reputable firm as there are a number of ill-informed companies out there offering ’preventive’ disinfection.

“At MSFM, we have completed successful specialised deep cleans for a lot of companies in NI and beyond, including office, commercial, call centre, manufacturing, clinical and nursing home environments.  We can sanitise and clean areas using approved grade disinfectant and with the use of ‘ fogging’ and our highly specialised ozone generators, we effectively and efficiently eliminate and reduce any further risk,” he concluded.

MSFM has been busier than most since the Coronavirus outbreak.  As well as the deep cleaning services it provides, Mercury’s security division has been providing a range of security solutions to help business owners protect their empty properties during lockdown and prepare for getting back to business.

The company has recently launched the Mercury TC-1 thermal camera which will offer much needed reassurances to returning companies and staff by enabling the speedy detection of a high body temperature or fever - one of the first vital symptoms displayed by carriers of the Coronavirus - in just under a second.

All of these services are provided and integrated using the state-of-the-art Intelocate management software system which records actions, collects data, produces reports and stores in one central system to enhance communication in an organized, transparent and confidential manner.

“We appreciate that this has been an extremely challenging and worrying time for people at home and throughout the world,” said Mercury CEO Frank Cullen.  “So at Mercury, our staff have been working around the clock to proactively try to slow the spread of COVID-19 and help companies stay safe, manage the risk that it  presents and, importantly, get back to work.”
