Locksmiths

The licensing of contractors providing locksmith services becomes mandatory on the 1st February 2017. Contractors seeking a licence will require a certificate from a PSA approved certification body certifying compliance to PSA 55:2016, the licensing standard for locksmiths.

Contractors who currently hold a PSA licence in the Access Control sector and wish to add the Locksmith sector to their licence will be able to synchronise their certification audit for the new sector with their existing standards audit. Where their next compliance audit was not scheduled until after 1st November 2016, the Authority will issue a licence on foot of a letter from the Certification Body confirming that the contractor has registered for the Locksmith sector. This arrangement will help to minimise compliance costs for licence holders. Contractors who avail of this arrangement must obtain certification before 31st January 2018.

Licensed contractors not in the Access Control sector and contractors who submit an application after the 1st February 2017 must have certification to PSA 55:2016. Further information on locksmith licensing is available at www.psa.gov.ie
