SAR Group co-develop training programme specific to healthcare security services to be developed

March 24, 2017

"SAR Group co-develop training programme specific to healthcare security services to be developed" ...First of its kind!

Monday March 20th launched the partnership of SAR Group Ireland, Cavan Institute and St. James's Hospital Dublin with the signing of a consortium agreement which will research, design, develop & co-deliver certified training programmes to meet the skill needs within the security services of St. James's Hospital.

This initiative has come about with the passion and dedication of the development team; Ronnie Weston (SAR Group), Alan Buckley (Facilities Management & Operations Manager, St. James’s Hospital) and John Magee (Cavan Institute Tutor), who recognised the need in the market for a dedicated healthcare programme similar to those delivered in the UK. They researched developed and agreed a programme to suit the healthcare needs of the Irish Healthcare Sector.

At the launch, held in the new MISA Building of St. James's Hospital, Ann Marie Lacey, Director of Cavan Institute, stated that the institute is looking forward to working with St. James’s Hospital and SAR Group on this and possible further initiatives. Not only have we the capacity to tailor programmes to industry needs, we also have a proven capacity to provide a student-focused, off the job training experience for all students that results in high progression rates to employment and further, higher education".

Vincent Callan, Director of Facilities Management at St. James's Hospital also commented "We are delighted to be working in partnership with Cavan Institute and SAR Group. The development of this unique training programme demonstrates the scope of what can be achieved when education and healthcare providers come together. The on-site training element will give valuable experience to students wishing to gain the skills needed to work in security services in a healthcare environment. Students will also be assigned a mentor during their work experience, affording the students the opportunity to further develop their skills".

This nine month program will deliver on-the-job training in conjunction with SAR Group, offering students first-hand experience. Upon completion trainees will receive certification accredited by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQL) at a Level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications.
